He was born on August 17, 1953 in Akhalgori, Georgia.
In 1977, he graduated with honors from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, and then completed his postgraduate studies at the same academy.
He is a professor at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, a member of the International Art Foundation since 1984, and a member of the Union of Artists of Georgia since 1983.
Niko Kherkeladze has organized numerous exhibitions in Georgia, Germany, Japan, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, France, and Russia (mostly in Moscow).
The artist's works have been awarded diplomas and medals.
The artist's works are in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Karl Marx State Museum in Germany, as well as in the private collections of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, former Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Chernomyrdin, former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, former Turkish President Suleyman Demirel, and others.
In 2010, in Paris, France, Niko Herkeladze presented his works at the Carrousel du Louvre, where he and ten other artists were awarded a diploma and a prize (600 artists from 100 countries took part in the competition). Since 2008, he has been an academician of the National Academy. In 2010, Niko Herkeladze was elected a member of the Academy of Arts of France.
